Features of the drill bits suppliers's drill
There are several standard aspects of drill bit geometry: helix, sharp angle, lip angle and functional length.

Auger Bit

Helix (sometimes referred to as twist rate) is the steepness of the grooves that spiral along the edge of the bit. If this is steep, the bit will tend to cut faster (per turn). This is called a "long slot". It usually uses a lower spindle speed. A "compact flute" is a flatter helix that results in more groove circulation along the length of the bit. This tends to cut slower (per revolution) and use a higher spindle speed. This is typically used when the drilled material tends to stick to the drill bit or clog the hole. Aluminum and copper are common examples.

point corner

This is the angle of the tip edge. This affects how the drill cuts certain materials. Softer materials require sharper sharp corners (darker sharp corners will tend to skim along the surface, unable to bite into the material). Harder materials require larger sharp corners because larger angles bite into the material and also better withstand the higher impact and resistance of harder materials. When used with harder materials, the sharper pointed corners tend to blunt, or may bite in and hold the bit in place - potentially damaging the tip or shaft.
